Salary: $180,000–$190,000/year

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for clients within the special education system to ensure they receive all services mandated under federal and state law.
  • Represent families in administrative hearings, mediations, and due process proceedings.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare motions, briefs, complaints, and settlement agreements.
  • Review, analyze, and advise on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and related documentation.
  • Collaborate with educators, therapists, evaluators, and other professionals to support comprehensive student service plans.
  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with all procedural timelines and legal requirements.
  • Stay current on federal and New York State special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, families, and community stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active admission to practice law in New York.
  • Demonstrated experience in special education law and student advocacy.
  • Strong legal writing, research, and courtroom advocacy skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Commitment to protecting the educational rights of students with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in nonprofit, legal aid, or education-focused legal environments.
  • Experience handling due process hearings independently.
